1. PrEP HIV Prevention
PrEP can be taken if you are HIV-negative to prevent you from acquiring the virus. It is a tablet which needs to be taken before sex. It’s available from your Dorset Sexual Health clinic – come and discuss with us to see if you are suitable.
2. Protect with Condoms
Condoms are effective against HIV (and other STIs too!). They can be used for vaginal, anal and oral sex. You can come in all shapes, sizes, flavours and colours. They are given out free from your nearest Dorset Sexual Health clinic.
3. Test for HIV
HIV testing is one of the most important ways to reduce HIV transmission. Everyone should know their current HIV status. A quick prick on the finger is all that we need!

4. Stay Undetectable
HIV patients on treatment with an undetectable viral load cannot pass the virus on during sex. This is called u=u (undetectable = untransmittable). Treatment as prevention is a highly effective tool in the fight against HIV transmission, the goal being no new HIV transmission by 2030 – as well as keeping patients well.
5. Care about Yourself and your Sexual Partners
Looking after your sexual health is important. We encourage you to test for sexually transmitted infections including HIV regularly.
